Bodaq® fire ratings for code-driven projects

Bodaq offers interior film patterns tested to ASTM E84 (equivalent to UL 723) in the United States, CAN/ULC-S102 in Canada and DIN 4102-1 in Europe. Test reports are issued per pattern series, so the certificate you need is specific to the code you specify — give Surface Supply the pattern and the occupancy and the current report comes back before it goes on a drawing.

The standards Bodaq is tested against

StandardRegionWhat it measures
ASTM E84United StatesSurface burning characteristics — flame spread and smoke developed. Equivalent to UL 723.
CAN/ULC-S102CanadaSurface burning characteristics of building materials and assemblies.
DIN 4102-1EuropeFire behaviour of building materials; Bodaq results reported at class B1, not easily flammable.
KS F 2271KoreaIncombustibility of internal finish materials.

Hyundai L&C's technical bulletin also records approval as a flame-retardant material by the Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute, and elevator compliance to ASME A17.1 in the United States, CSA B44 in Canada and TSSA.

Why certification is per pattern series

Bodaq is not one recipe. The face print, the emboss and the film build differ between series, and Hyundai L&C's own documentation notes that structures vary. Test reports follow the product that was tested, so they are issued against individual series — NS, W, LF, RM, PZ and SPW among them each hold their own report. That is normal for architectural finishes and it works in your favour: it means the certificate you hand to an authority having jurisdiction describes the exact material going on the wall.

The practical consequence is simply that the pattern code has to be fixed before the certificate can be pulled. Choose the finish, then confirm the report — rather than assuming a range-wide claim and discovering the gap at submittal.

How to specify it

  1. Pick the pattern. Use the pattern index — patterns carrying a flame-retardant option in the catalog are marked FR, and you can filter for them directly.
  2. Tell us the occupancy. Corridor, exit enclosure, guest room, lift car and healthcare corridor all pull different requirements from the code.
  3. We send the current report. Surface Supply supplies the test documentation for that series so it can go into the submittal package.
  4. Write the code into the schedule. Specify the pattern code and the flame-retardant variant explicitly, so what is ordered matches what was approved.

Which patterns carry a flame-retardant option

Of the 468 patterns in the 2026–2027 catalog, 440 are printed with a flame-retardant (방염) marker. You can filter the index to those patterns in one click. Every pattern page states its marker and links to the request form.

Beyond flame spread

Fire is usually the gating question, but code-driven projects often ask for the rest of the material file too. Bodaq's published data covers heavy metals (cadmium, lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium not detected under IEC 62321), PBBs and PBDEs below 5 mg/kg, phthalates below 50 mg/kg, and an Environmental Product Declaration giving a global warming potential of 1.96 kg CO2 eq./m². All of it is on the performance page, and Surface Supply can send the underlying documents.

FAQ

Questions about fire and compliance

Is Bodaq Class A fire rated?

Bodaq offers patterns tested to ASTM E84, and Hyundai L&C reports Class A / Class I results for tested finishes. Because reports are issued per pattern series, the right answer for a specific project is the certificate for the specific code — tell us the pattern and we will send it.

Do all Bodaq patterns have a fire certificate?

No. 440 of the 468 patterns in the current catalog carry a flame-retardant option marker. The pattern index lets you filter to them.

Can Bodaq be used in elevator cabs?

Yes, and it is one of the most common uses because a cab can be refinished overnight. Hyundai L&C's bulletin states compliance with ASME A17.1 (US), CSA B44 (Canada) and TSSA. Confirm the pattern-specific documentation with your elevator contractor.

How do I get the test report?

Ask. Send the pattern code and the occupancy through the request form and Surface Supply will return the current report for that series.
